Scorpions Cricket has continued its dominance in Masvingo Cricket competitions. Since the start of the 2017/18 season the team is yet to taste defeat.

The defending champions' next assignment is against a tricky side Lowveld Warthogs at Triangle Country Club on 12 November.

Their top order batsmen have been troubling all teams' bowling attack including the next opponents. In their last encounter Scorpions Cricket defeated the hosts by ten wickets thanks to Douglas Murove's fifty. The team only lost two wickets in its three played games. Batsman Maponga is the leading run scorer in the one day format, with a half century against Hungwe . Pepukai Chisaka their most experienced player who played for then franchise side Southern Rocks is still yet to bat.

Clearly they go into the match as favorites but the underdogs can defy the odds. Warthogs are still to beat Scorpions in any competition. This gives them more pressure to put a big fight at home.

Back into the Scorpions squad is star bowler Douglas Murove who has been missing in all club activities due to academic commitments. The left arm seamer last played at the just ended Simon Mzenda Championship where he ended the tournament with a fifty and a handful of wickets. Though he wont be much of a factor to the slow wicket at Triangle the team will require the service of captain Gabriel Jaya, Blessed Muzite and their leg spinner young Gratitude Jaya. Muzite took three in their last game against Mucheke Cricket at Masvingo greatly showing the much needed form getting into the game.

2016/2017 Lowveld Warthogs vs Scorpions at Triangle

In a interview with the captain Gabriel Jaya, he highlighted how the team was getting ready for the game given that they have much time to prepare. With our strong batting lineup and everyone doing their roles, we can bat and set 250+ and our target will be to dismiss Warthogs with a low score, I believe awareness intensity, discipline and simplicity will take us through. Most of the guys are practising with provincial coach Alester (Maregwede), I think they will be up for the task when the day comes and mind you its just a day after the Zimbabwe Academy trials so the guys will just carry on from where they left said Jaya.

With news that Mugazambi and Murombo are most likely not to be part of the team Jaya said he felt pity for the opposition as it will not be having their two key players and they should make a plan as they cannot face a stronger team like us. He went on to highlight that it will be an advantage to them as they will be facing weaker team.

On the other hand Warthogs will be hoping their key batsman Obey Mberi will be in good form to face the Scorpions bowling attack. No team has passed 100 runs so far against these giants. Warthogs will be hoping for their home advantage to do most of the work. With one of the slowest wickets in Zimbabwe and harsh weather conditions Scorpions will have to be watchful though it will be not their first time there.

Definitely this will be an enjoyable Sunday for people of Triangle supporting their local team and enjoying their Sunday braai at the country club.
